What did we do today?
Group meeting (9-10am)
The day started with an hour long group meeting so t hat we put our herds together on the group project.
* We agreed on the topic and scope of our project: we are looking at cyber bullying in post primary education
* We have identified our target group as students in the junior cycle of leaving cert
* The main issues that we will be focusing on are: What do we mean by bullying, particularly cyber bullying, How to identify cyber bullying, What do do when being bullied, How do you protect yourself and lastly the role of the school in all this.
Lecture session (10am -1pm)
Today we had Clare Gormley, a past student of the MSc Applied eLearning programme and now an eLearning practitioner based at DCU.
- Clare gave us her reflection as a graduate of the MSc programme.
- She shared with us information about her experience and how she has been using it in her current role at DCU.
- She also gave us a brief look at the importance of developing a persona (fictional character) for any On-line Instructional Design.
- We were also introduced to the Open University's OULDI concepts of using coloured cards as a way to critically look at developing or persona - we did this in groups and the discussions were lively.
- We had a quick look at some elearningtoolkit where we looked at how to define On-line outcomes, identify On-line activities with developed
- At various stages within todays' lecture time, we went into our IDEA groups to discuss how the issues we covered today have a bearing on our group project
- Last we had a brief introduction to various models of instructional design - ADDIE, ASSURE and many many
How useful was all this?
- Very useful in terms of putting what we are discussing as a group into perspective
- Helped in my having a critical look at linking the project we are doing to the elements of good on-line instruction design - prior to today's class, I was failing to link the project to IDEA
- Session was useful, particular on the importance of drawing up the persona for any instructional Design. Persona goes beyond looking at the physical make up of the fictional character, I liked the individual exercise we did on the persona card
What next?
From today's session I am enthused in doing group work -- the 4 of use brought so much into the group, some had indepth knowledge that is valuable to the project. The challenging group exercise we had with OULDI cards, made us to critically think about the various elements of our project and this brought up a fresh look into the project and issues I would look at from an individual point of view when thinking of design learning material. The persona card, also brought in critical thinking which expossed other issues that one has to consider when coming up with the persona for any instructional design materail
